Bayer and Neste sign deal to scale winter canola as HVO/SAF feedstock

Why it matters: feedstock supply is the bottleneck behind HVO/renewable diesel growth. A seed-to-refinery tie-up between a major agri-genetics firm and the world's biggest HVO producer is a leading indicator of where renewable diesel volumes come from next.
Bayer and Neste have finalised a commercial agreement to expand Bayer's newgold winter canola as a dedicated feedstock crop across the US Southern Great Plains. The oilseed will feed renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel production, with the high-protein meal by-product going into animal feed. Bayer plans to launch newgold hybrid varieties, bred for winter-hardiness, herbicide tolerance and pod-shatter resistance, from 2027.
