Dangote diesel price swings sharply as crude wobbles, squeezing Nigerian fleets
Why it matters: Nigeria's biggest refinery is now the reference price for diesel across West Africa's road transport sector.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery cut its diesel gantry price by 80 naira a litre on 7 October, taking it to 1,700 naira, only to reverse course three days later and lift it by 100 naira to 1,800 naira. The whiplash tracked crude: Brent dipped toward 98 US dollars a barrel before climbing back past 100, while West Texas Intermediate swung either side of 90 dollars. Depot operators such as Pivot and African Terminal were already selling nearer 1,905 naira, with Abuja retail prices running 1,960 to 1,980 naira a litre. For truckers and farmers who'd welcomed the brief relief, the reversal is a reminder that Nigeria's diesel market now moves on global crude headlines almost in real time.
