Diesel trucks drive Daimler Truck's 51 per cent North American sales surge in Q3

Why it matters: diesel truck demand in North America jumped sharply in the September quarter even as the group's electric truck sales shrank further, a sign fleets are buying combustion hard ahead of tighter 2027 emissions rules.
Daimler Truck's North American division sold 45,629 trucks in the third quarter of 2026, up 51 per cent on the same quarter last year. Group-wide sales rose 26 per cent to 91,260 units. Nearly all of that growth was diesel and other combustion trucks: battery-electric sales across the whole group, trucks and buses combined, fell 28 per cent year on year to just 1,207 units, a sliver of total volume. Mercedes-Benz Trucks sales rose 13 per cent to 40,362 units, while Daimler Buses sales fell 16 per cent. Full Q3 financial results follow on 6 November.
