New Orleans firm Turn Services takes delivery of first two of eight Mitsubishi-diesel pusher tugs

Why it matters: a fresh US inland fleet renewal shows Tier III Mitsubishi diesels still winning river-tug orders on the Mississippi, a vote of confidence in conventional diesel propulsion for working boats.
Turn Services, a New Orleans marine transport company, has taken delivery of Sir Barton and War Admiral, the first two of an eight-boat series of inland pusher tugs built by Verret Shipyard in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Each twin-screw tug runs on a pair of Mitsubishi S6R2-series diesels, EPA Tier III-rated at 803hp (600kW) each for a combined 1,600hp (1,200kW), through Reintjes WF 570 reduction gears. The 65ft by 26ft boats will handle barge and ship-assist work on the Lower Mississippi River and Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The remaining six boats in the series arrive through 2026 and into 2027.
